ED Summoned Cricketer Suresh Raina

Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned cricketer Suresh Raina. He appeared before ED on Wednesday, August 13^th 2025. The ED’s investigation of the former cricketer is based on concerns that his public endorsements of 1xBet may have indirectly contributed to the promotion of a platform involved in illicit financial activity. The probe aims to determine whether Raina knowingly endorsed the betting app and whether those endorsements violated Indian laws such as the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Sources said that ED has also called Google & Meta representatives for questioning in this illegal online betting app case.

Deccan Herald said that ED is investigating several other cases where illegal online betting apps involved in money laundering or tax evasions.

On August 13, 2025, Raina appeared before the ED in Delhi and was probed. He was there with ED officials for approximately eight hours. His statement officially recorded under the PMLA. The controversy surges when Raina became the Ambassador of the online gaming app 1xBet, an international betting platform which was banned in India.
